# Add tags to an item

> Adds one or more tags to the item. Idempotent — tags already present are not duplicated. Tag strings should be kebab-case; reserved prefixes (`collection:`, `folder:`, `status:`, `priority:`) carry cross-app conventions. See [Metadata — tags](/concepts/metadata#tags).
